Costa Dorada Tourism

The Costa Dorada is south of Costa Brava to Tarragona and is about 6 283 km2 with 786 hectares of beaches. Costa de Dorada is less rugged than the Costa Brava with flat golden beaches. The sand is fine and clear shallow water.

The capital is Tarragona, and it has 10 counties and 183 municipalities. The marine littoral is 216km long. There are also peaceful towns and farmland where there are olive groves, hazel, carobs, almond trees and vegetables. Many Tourists flock to the Costa Dorada, many staying in Villas in the Costa Dorada area. Others choose to rent Apartments in the Costa Dorada area.

It has temperate Mediterranean climate with clear, sharp atmosphere and skies of intense blue in the winter. This is caused by the Mestrai winds that blow from the northeast. In summer there is the Garbi winds that blow from the south-east. The temperatures average 7c – 10c in winter and 20c-26c in summer. Its gets an average rainfall of 375mm-700mm per annum.

Tarragona was originally built on a rocky bluff, can have its roots traced back to 218 BC. The Romans built it as a legionnaires military base. There are still ruins of the roman amphitheatre and aqueduct. You could explore the old harbour known as El Serrallo and also the Roman archaeological museum.

Portaventura has a massive themed park based on Busch Gardens in Florida. It consists of 5 land themes including, Mediterrania, Mexico, China and Polynesia. You can visit Great Wall of China, ruins of Mayan in Mexico; meet some cowboys of the old west and then jumping in the great lake from Tutuki Splash Volcano. Others attractions include Sea Odyssey underwater adventure, Stampida roller coaster and Grand Canyon rapids water ride. There is also the famous Dragon Khan ride with its 8 loops. You also enjoy cabaret shows, shops and restaurants.

Aqualeon – Aquapark is an open-air safari with shows of birds of prey, marine animals and reptiles. There is also a mini zoo, nature school and restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. The waterpark has giant waves, slides, river rapids and a children’s pool.

Aquoplois is located in La Pineda where there is the 50km/h Kamikaze slide and black hole, a wave pool and hydrotherapy pool. There is also show put on by Dolphins and sea lions. You also can enjoy a round of mini golf and the bumper boats.
